Dear Parents,

As a reminder, it is very important that you check your child’s breakfast/lunch account balance regularly.  Each breakfast your child eats costs $1.35 and each lunch is $2.30 this 2011/12 school year.

If a student does not have sufficient funds, or a positive balance, in their breakfast/lunch account, they will only be able to “charge” for 10 breakfast meals and 10 lunch meals.  This equates to a total of $36.50.

Per school board policy, if your child’s breakfast/lunch account has a negative balance greater than $36.50, they will not be allowed the main entree choice, at breakfast and lunch.  Instead of the main entree, your child will be served the alternate choice of toast for breakfast, and sunbutter sandwich for lunch.  The regular vegetable, fruit and milk will be provided.  If a child’s account has a negative balance greater than $36.50, they will be verbally informed that they will need to select the alternate entree choice for breakfast and lunch.

Also to clarify, students that qualify for free meals are only allowed one milk per meal.  If the student wishes to have a second milk, they will be charged $.30 for that milk purchase if money is in their account.  Also, if a student wishes to have a second entree or a snack, they need to have money in their account to charge this purchase.  If no money is in the account, the student needs to pay cash for the purchase.  Additional purchases, such as a milk or entree, are charged full price for free and reduced students.

It is very easy to access your lunch account balance.  A quick phone call can be made to the high school at 218-745-4646, and Denelle can give you this information.  If you have computer access, an even faster way would be to log on to our district website at
www.wao.k12.mn.us and navigate to your child’s account following these steps:

1.  Click on the grey Calendar button at the top of the screen next to the pony.
2.  A slide-up window will appear.  Click on High School Menus.
3.  Click on the link titled Check your lunch account balance.
4.  Enter your Patron Pin number (your child’s lunch number) and click the Lookup Account
button.
5. Your child’s account balance will be displayed, along with a calendar whereby you
can see further detail about the activity (charges and payments) that has
occurred within a time period.

In the near future, we will be using our instant alert system, that will automatically call parents with a friendly reminder, if your child’s account is low.  I thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.  If you have any further questions, please contact me at 218-745-4646 or by email at cpeterson@wao.k12.mn.us.

Sincerely,
Craig Peterson

Webcasting at WAO!

Can't make it out to all the WAO events this year?

Webcasting makes it possible for people to stay closely connected to their local school and students.  It offers WAO a valuable opportunity to showcase their students' skills, talents, and accomplishments, using a modern effective way to keep people informed about school events.

WAO students will also get valuable hands-on experience in broadcasting live and pre-recorded video events streamed over the internet.  This service is FREE to all who wish to watch the events. All you need is a computer with internet access.

Now with Webcasting, you are simply a click away from all the action.  The 2011 Elementary Christmas concert & the JH/HS Christmas concert is on our Webcasting site.  A quick link to the concerts can be found on the WAO School Website:

www.wao.k12.mn.us

Located on both the top and left hand navigation areas of the homepage, is a link titled WAO Webcasts.  Click on this link and you will be directed to WAO's Webcast America's site.  On the site you will need to click on the appropriate event link, to begin playing/viewing the webcast.

Thank you to the WAO Education Foundation for funding Webcasting at WAO.
